52 years ago, the exploding whale washed a shore on the South Jetty in Florence, Oregon. A memorial plaque at South Jetty Day Use 5/6 Area for information about the 44 whales that washed up a few years after this event.

Don’t miss a visit to the Exploding Whale exhibit at the Siuslaw Pioneer Museum across the street from Homegrown at 278 Maple Street, open from 12noon - 4 p.m on Saturday, November 12th. The exhibit has actual whale bones from the honored whale and the museum is full of interesting Florence historical displays.
